TunisiaGroup A / Presidents Cup

A home advantage can set free a lot power, self-assurance and endurance – the best example aside Germany in 2007 is Tunisia: By hosting the WCH 2005 the team was on the wings of success and reached the semi finals as second Non-European team after Egypt in handball history. But then dream of a medal ended by losing the last two decisive matches. But this fourth rank was the initial for a new generation of Tunisian players – and a real handball euphoria in Tunisia. Now the Northern Africans even beat their great continental rival Egypt in their lion’s den as they won the African Championships in Cairo with a clear final victory against the host.

Several Tunisian players are currently playing for French clubs with idols like Wissem Hmam or Issam Tej (both playing for French Champion Montpellier). For Tunisia it’s their ninth consecutive participation at a World Championship – but concerning the group they have to play – against Germany, France, Spain and Egypt – it’ll be a tough challenge to go on to the Main Round.
