Sweden: "We are not under pressure“

The Swedish team have high hopes for the semi-final – even as they have to face the reigning European, World and Olympics champion France. “We hope for a great support from the stands – and the pressure is on France, not us,” says head coach Staffan Olsson.

The World Championship host has achieved more than they had hoped for – but now they are going for the final, even as some injuries caused a little trouble for Olsson and Ola Lindgren, the second head coach. Kim Andersson will miss the rest of the tournament, Oscar Carlen is injured from the match against Croatia, but: “We hope to play a great match against France”, as Olsson said.  It will be the first semi-final on Friday –and in 2007 and 2009 the host (Croatia and Germany) had reached the finals of a World Championship.  The support will be a huge point for Sweden in Malmö. The host had lost only two matches currently: the surprising defeat against Argentina and the close defeat against Denmark, which was without importance, as Sweden had been qualified for the semi-final before.  And they arte hungry for a real great WCh position:  In 2009 it was the ninth rank, in 2007the Swedish failed in qualification, the last medal they took  in 2001, ranked second.

The strength of the Swedish team is their team spirit and their performance in defense. Both goalkeepers – Mattias Anderssson and Johan Sjöstrand – saved in an impressive manner, the defense led by Magnus Jernemyr and Tobias Karlsson stood like a wall. In attack the Swedish team counted on three times Champions League winner Jonas Källman from the Spanish club Ciudad Real as well as the new star Kim Ekdahl du Rietz. The Swedish attack tactics can either take the profit of counter attacks or on the strategy of play maker Dalibor Doder, who scores and leads the team. Aside Niclas Ekberg is as cold as ice from the seven meter line.

They may not be under pressure because they play at home but they'll definitively have a tough time against France. They've been playing together for more than 10 years for some. Experience will break through. Nevertheless being the favorite team and especially against the host team is never a good match-up. I think France will have the early pressure on the game so I expect a tight first-half and then France will pull it off. Let's go France!
The winner takes it all... As Abba sang - and so they did. I hope Sweden will win, but it will come as a supprice I must say.
Best luck to the Swedish team! They might very well need it, as France seems superior at the moment... P.S. You'd better fix the spelling of "wolrd".
Congrats to the Final Four Teams, I'm pulling for a Denmark Final, I haven't seen France nor Spain play but I suspect they will be tough to defeat. Good Luck to all !! More photographs from the Handball Championship at http://nordic-handball.blogspot.com
hope sweden stuff those dirty french they have no reason not to win home advantage will be key
Mark, I would be very surprised if Sweden was able to beat France on Friday, but then we will see. Even though it is (very) helpful to play home so that you can get moral support from the crowd, I doubt it makes a significant impact on the French team. Remember the world championship in Croatia in 2009. I would not qualify the French team of being "dirty", they are generally very respectful and disciplined under the supervision of Claude Onesta. On the other hand, I am glad that Sweden is back in the the final four though. I am looking forward to watching the two games.
II'm sure it will be a very beautyful game. Franc Like to play against host team, and like to win against them, so it's not a big advantage for Sweden. Also, France have lot of pleyers in champion's league. So I don't see a lots of advantage for Sweden as they said in the text. I think it ould be equal, I enjoy the Swedish retur! But I'm french so... go France!

It says "the close defeat against Denmark". Those who watched the game will find, that the match found its winner already after 40 minuttes!
The main key of semi-final Sweden/France is the capability of referees to be impartial and insensible to crowd pressure. The other key is the French player concentration. In the past, they demonstrated that they are able to play their game under hostile mood. Will they do the same performance here ? If they do, and if the referee are honnest, nothing can stop this icnredible French team.
Referees no matter what should be impartial. Hopefully, the 2007 disaster during the semi-final Germany-France was absolutely outrageous. This time, there will be no Swedish referees for Sweden-France. Regarding the other game, I sense some sort of enthusiasm within the Spanish team, which might help against the very strong Danish team. Both semi-finals are going to be pretty interesting...
TICKETS LEFT FOR SWEDEN-FRANCE SEMI-FINAL
Really, really hope Carlén can play against france!
The only way Sweden will win is if France plays without the keeper, and refs. are blind, and one-sided. So, everything is possible...........not. Sweden has snow ball's chance in hell of winning... My money is on France.
French team is the best team with the best players (omeyer, karabatich, fernandez....). I hope that swenden will lose of less than 10 goals...
UPDATE : Swedish fans repeat their neighbours but in a softly way -> its not nice watching a winning Spain and swedish fans that ignore the winner in a worst way I ever saw !!!! Danemark fans showed how to be stupid .... fair play as it is known in scnadinavian countries doesnt exist . Barbie pseudo fairness died(well it doesnt mean the danish crew is same build but it explain their head functionality). Hope these ppl will burn in hell !!!!! go FRANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You right Hans : it happened in the match Danemark - Poland 28:27 as the danish fans whistle along playing the polish national anthem. That is not fair though the teams, means the men are very friendly people who respect each other even the opponent. So the danish crew is ok but their fans are really, really bad example for this SPORT. I ensure you it would never happen in Poland or Germany or France but the fact is it happens in a Scandinavian country where other Scandinavian country played.
