Either Kristianstad or Malmö will host the second semi-final of the World Handball World Championship 2011.
The other two candidates, Jönköping and Halmstad, has today been informed that they are no longer current.
Now there are two options:
Either one semifinal will be played in Kristianstad and the second in Malmö, or both in Malmö.
Now the two alternatives will be evaluated before a decision at the next board meeting on November 6.
The semi-finals will be played Friday, January 28th, 2011.

Previously it’s decided that the preliminary round will be played in four groups of six teams.
Group A: Gothenburg (Sweden will play here, first match January 13)
Group B: Linköping / Norrköping
Group C: Malmö / Lund
Group D: Kristianstad / Lund
Main Round will be played in Jönköping / Skövde and Malmö / Kristianstad / Lund
The final and the bronze match will be played January 30 in Malmö Arena.

Teams that ends 4,5 and 6 in each group qualifies for President’s Cup in Skövde, Kristianstad, Malmö and Lund.

The playing schedule and the selection of the hosting cities will be valid only when the respective local agreements are signed and the IHF has given their approval.
