The road to Sweden
Eleven teams are qualified for Men's Handball World Championship 2011 in Sweden:
France, as reigning champions; Sweden, as host nation and Iceland, Poland and Croatia from EURO 2010 in Austria.
By February 19 three more tickets were played out. Top three teams of the Asian Championship; Korea, Bahrain and Japan qualified.
The day after, February 20, the medal winners from the African Championship: Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria got their tickets to Sweden.
The rest of the European qualification will take place in June (12/13 and 19/20), with knockout games as following:
- Austria-Netherlands
- Norway-Lithuania
- Slovenia-Hungary
- Germany-Greece
- Slovakia-Ukraine
- Serbia-Czech Republik
- Romania-Russia
- Denmark-Switzerland
- Portugal-Spain
The winners will make it to Sweden.
At the same time the Pan-American continent will play their qualification matches.
Team number 24 will come from Oceania.
The draw, for four groups with six teams each in the preliminary round, will be held in Gothenburg, July 9.
