Sweden and Denmark in the semi-finals

Both Northern European neighbours have reached the WCh semifinals after the second Match Day of the Main Round: After Sweden had beaten Croatia, Denmark took both points against Argentina. For Denmark it was the seventh victory in the seventh match – and now it’s decided that no other team can overtake Sweden anymore. Both semi-finalists will meet on Tuesday for the group winner – and a draw is enough for Denmark to remain on top. No matter what team will win the group the Danes play their semi in Kristianstad and Sweden in Malmö.

Spain, Sweden, Croatia and Germany start with victories

The Main Round started with a surprise: Germany beat Iceland, it was the first defeat for the Northern Europeans in Sweden. Aside Spain (against Norway) and Croatia (against Argentina) took clear victories. Sweden can hope for the semis after beating Serbia.

Thrilling draw in the final duel of group A

France and Spain tied in a high tensioned final match of group A. So everything is decided concerning the Main Round after 60 matches of the Preliminary Round. Iceland and Denmark are the only teams taking 4:0 points to the next stage. The starting composition is like this:

Group I in Jönköping:

Iceland 4 points, France 3 points, Spain 3 points, Hungary 2 points, Germany 0 points, Norway 0 points.

Group II in Malmö/Lund:

Denmark 4 points, Sweden 2 points, Poland 2 points, Argentina 2 points, Croatia 1 point, Serbia 1 point

France win World Champion’s duel, no winner in Balkan clash

As Croatia gave their first point from their hands after a thrilling draw against neighbor Serbia, France dismantled the German team with their fourth victory. Tunisia took their first points against Bahrain.

Second victories for Germany, Spain and Serbia

As the groups B and D have a rest day on Sunday the groups A and C stood on the fields in Malmö, Lund and Kristianstad. And in the first three matches the favourites Germany, Spain and Serbia took mostly clear victories.

Germany and Norway win after extra time

Both placement matches on Thursday evening had to be decided by extra time. Germany needed 80 minutes to beat Argentina to take the eleventh place, after 70 minutes Norway had beaten Serbia to rank ninth.

After two straight defeats in the Main Round, Germany finished the World Championship with a victory. By beating Argentina 40:35 after two extra times they luckily secured the eleventh place in the final ranking – which still means their worst result in the last 73 years. For the brave Gauchos from Argentina it was the fourth consecutive defeat after their fabulous Preliminary Round – and still rank 12 is the best result ever for them.

We welcome nine more teams!

We welcome another nine teams to Sweden in January next year.

After the European qualification matches this weekend the nations in bold text have won their tickets to Men's Handball World Championship 2011.

Now 21 of 24 teams are qualified. The three last nations will qualifiy during the Pan American qualification in Chile 22-26 June.
