About the semifinals in Malmö and Kristianstad

In Mainround II, Sweden and Denmark are now qualified for the semifinals. The match on Tuesday between the Nordic neighbors will decide the group winner.

No matter what team will win the group, the Danes play their semi in Kristianstad and Sweden in Malmö.

It is app. 2.000 people in Denmark that have bought their tickets for the semifinal in Malmö. Most of the remaining 9.500 tickets have been sold in Sweden. Some ticket holders might want to change their tickets and the organizers will try to find ways to help as many as possible to do that.

IHF President awards ”School World Champions” in Malmö

More than 1500 school children from the Skane region – including the WCh host cities Malmö, Lund and Kristianstad - competed on Monday 17 January 2011 in the Baltiska Hallen in Malmö for the ”Lilla VM”, the ”School Handball World Championship”. In four age groups 54 school teams aged eight to twelve years, coming from 15 cities, fought for the titles after a long series of local qualification tournaments in autumn. Supported by their parents and other kids from their schools they played on three mini handball courts parallel.  Each match took 16 minutes, 2x4 minutes the boys and 2x4 minutes the girls from the qualified schools played the same system as the ”real” World Championship in Sweden.

Ticket vouchers for Malmö/Lund

The two Semi-finals will be played in Malmö and Kristianstad. It will be decided late January 25 which one will be played where. For the Main Round in Malmö and Lund it will be decided January 20 what matches that will be played in Lund. It is however already decided that Denmark and Sweden (if they are qualified) will play in Malmö. To be sure that you will have a ticket for the arena where your team is playing, we have for these occasions a limited number of ticket vouchers. These ticket vouchers will be changed into a ticket for the right arena. If you have a voucher and your team didn´t qualify the voucher will always be valid for Malmö Arena. As said, the numbers are limited, so first to buy are the lucky ones.

Playing schedule is set

409 days to go now. Only a little more than a year before the Men’s Handball World Championship 2011 is here! We just know two teams: France and Sweden, but the game schedule is set now – and further down there are a couple of small news on Facebook.

Men’s Handball World Championship 2011 begins 13 January with an opening match in Göteborg, where Sweden is one of the two teams.
The other 23 teams enter the tournament 14 January.
The WCh starts with Preliminary Round with four groups of six teams each: One group playing in Gothenburg, one in Linköping/Norrköping, one in Malmö/Lund and one in Kristianstad/Lund.
Preliminary Round ends 20 January.
The top three teams in each group proceed to the Main Round, which is played in two groups of six teams. One group is to be played in Jönköping and the other in Malmö/Lund, starting 22 January.
