France complete semi-finals

All four semi-finalists are known, but the composition has not been decided yet: Like Denmark, Spain   and Sweden before France has reached the round of the last four teams after their 31:26 victory against Norway. If the French team will finish first or second in Group I will be decided on Tuesday, same as the constellation of Sweden and Denmark in their direct duel. Before the final Match Day of the Main Round France and Spain are equal in points (7:1).

Spain third team in the semis

Still unbeaten team of Spain has booked their semi final ticket. With now 7:1 points after the clear 32:24 victory against Iceland they can’t be overtaken from any team from the second place in group I.

Sweden and Denmark in the semi-finals

Both Northern European neighbours have reached the WCh semifinals after the second Match Day of the Main Round: After Sweden had beaten Croatia, Denmark took both points against Argentina. For Denmark it was the seventh victory in the seventh match – and now it’s decided that no other team can overtake Sweden anymore. Both semi-finalists will meet on Tuesday for the group winner – and a draw is enough for Denmark to remain on top. No matter what team will win the group the Danes play their semi in Kristianstad and Sweden in Malmö.

Sweden fly on the wings of success

As the teams of Main Round group I had a rest day on Monday WCh host Sweden made a huge step to the semi-finals by their impressive 29:25 victory over Croatia. If Denmark take at least on point against Argentina later this evening both Northern Europeans teams are already qualified for the semi finals before their direct duel on Tuesday.

Denmark one small step away from semi-finals

The favoured teams have made their way in the evening Main Round games of Match Day 1. Denmark took a close and thrilling victory against Poland, as France overran Hungary. Both teams took the lead in their group remaining unbeaten. For Denmark it was the sixth straight victory.

After the first Match Day France and Spain (each 5:1 points) lead the ranking ahead of Iceland (4:2), Germany, Hungary (each 2:4) and Norway (0:6).

Spain, Sweden, Croatia and Germany start with victories

The Main Round started with a surprise: Germany beat Iceland, it was the first defeat for the Northern Europeans in Sweden. Aside Spain (against Norway) and Croatia (against Argentina) took clear victories. Sweden can hope for the semis after beating Serbia.

What will happen, if…? – The situation before the last Match Day of the Preliminary Round

A lot of cases have been decided yet in the Preliminary Round of the World Championship – but several important decisions will be taken on the last Match Day of the Preliminary Round in all four groups. After 48 of in total 60 matches already ten teams have qualified for the Main Round – two places are still free in groups A and D.

But not only the qualification counts, but the number of points the teams take to the next stage is even more important. Here’s an overview on the current standings and the option still possible in the groups:

Group A:

France and Spain have already qualified for the Main Round with each four victories. Both will take at least two points to the Main Round in Jonköping – the exact number will be decided in the direct duel. The winner of this match go on with 4:0 points, the loser with 2:2, and in case of a draw both will have 3:3.

Business as usual at the Men’s World Championship in Sweden: Four European teams play for the medals in the two semi-finals on Friday in Kristianstad and Malmö. France will meet host Sweden and Denmark play against Spain to go for the final, which will take place in Malmö on Sunday.

Ticket vouchers for Malmö/Lund

The two Semi-finals will be played in Malmö and Kristianstad. It will be decided late January 25 which one will be played where. For the Main Round in Malmö and Lund it will be decided January 20 what matches that will be played in Lund. It is however already decided that Denmark and Sweden (if they are qualified) will play in Malmö. To be sure that you will have a ticket for the arena where your team is playing, we have for these occasions a limited number of ticket vouchers. These ticket vouchers will be changed into a ticket for the right arena. If you have a voucher and your team didn´t qualify the voucher will always be valid for Malmö Arena. As said, the numbers are limited, so first to buy are the lucky ones.
