“We have reached new records” – Interview with IHF president Dr. Hassan Moustafa

hanBefore the final of the World Championship, IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa takes his personal balance of the WCh in Sweden.

What are your general impressions of the World Championship in Sweden?

Moustafa: I give my gratitude to the Swedish organizers, they did a very good job. And this is not only my opinion, but also all officials and teams share it. I am very happy with the result in Sweden. It is always our objective to reach new records at World Championships. And we reached a new record in TV broadcasting. Never before, a World Championship has been broadcasted in so many countries. By reflecting the last ten years the increase to 160 countries is enormous. Aside the number of spectators rose compared with the last World Championship in Croatia. The arenas were full in all venues.

IHF President awards ”School World Champions” in Malmö

More than 1500 school children from the Skane region – including the WCh host cities Malmö, Lund and Kristianstad - competed on Monday 17 January 2011 in the Baltiska Hallen in Malmö for the ”Lilla VM”, the ”School Handball World Championship”. In four age groups 54 school teams aged eight to twelve years, coming from 15 cities, fought for the titles after a long series of local qualification tournaments in autumn. Supported by their parents and other kids from their schools they played on three mini handball courts parallel.  Each match took 16 minutes, 2x4 minutes the boys and 2x4 minutes the girls from the qualified schools played the same system as the ”real” World Championship in Sweden.

More get the chance to experience the Handball World Championship 2011

In January 2011, Sweden hosts the World Championships in handball for men - the largest event taking place in Sweden this year.

IHF, Swedish Handball Federation and the COC for Men’s Handball World Championship in Sweden have met to discuss the way ahead.

The President of IHF Dr. Hassan Moustafa and the President of Swedish Handball Federation Hans Vestberg signed the agreement underlying the World Championship.

”This has brought us a good step forward towards the world's best championship”, says Hans Vestberg.

”We have had very good discussions. We will work together as a team with this championship”, says Dr. Hassan Moustafa.

Fler får chansen att uppleva handbolls-VM 2011

Under VM i handboll i Sverige 2011 kommer flera grupper att delas, så att fler människor får möjlighet att uppleva handboll på högsta nivå.

I januari 2011 är Sverige värd för VM i handboll för herrar – det största evenemang som äger rum i Sverige detta år.
