Australia: "One victory is our dream“

For the sixth time the Australian team participate at a Men’s World Championship . and since 2003 the “Aussies” wait for a single victory. Now they believe that their time has come in Sweden. “We have a really strong team with certain skills,” coach Taip Ramadani says. In the Preliminary Round the Australians had tough opponents like Croatia or Denmark, but they improved from match to match. “We had really good performances against Serbia and Algeria, especially our defense is working well,” player Bevan Calvert says.

Germany and Argentina complete Main Round

One former World Champion and a debutant complete the Main Round of the World Championship: Germany beat Tunisia in the decisive match of group A and Argentina took the points against their neighbor Chile to secure their first ever  qualification for the best 12 teams.  Aside Bahrain won their first ever World Championship match in handball history.

Denmark, Serbia and Spain go on to Main Round

The next contenders made their way to the Main Round: As Denmark (against Algeria) and Spain (against Egypt) took their each fourth victory in their fourth match of the Preliminary Round they qualified for the next stage with now eight points. But both have real clashes ahead, as Denmark meet Croatia and Spain play against France on Thursday. Those both games will decide about the winners of Groups A and C. Thanks to the Danish victory also Serbia booked the ticket to the Main Round. Romania won their first match in this WCh.

 

After Match Day 4 is completed, those are the teams already qualified for the Main Round:

Group A:  France, Spain

Group B:  Iceland, Hungary, Norway

Group C:  Denmark, Croatia, Serbia

Group D: Poland, Sweden

Algeria pull the Romanian teeth, Spain win World Champion’s duel

After Slovakia was defeated by Argentina earlier, the next Eastern European team was surprised on Monday evening: Romania lost against Algeria after scoring only four goals in the second half. Croatia and Poland secured their third victories.  In the first “clash of the titans” in Group A Spain was the lucky winner against Germany.

Second victories for Germany, Spain and Serbia

As the groups B and D have a rest day on Sunday the groups A and C stood on the fields in Malmö, Lund and Kristianstad. And in the first three matches the favourites Germany, Spain and Serbia took mostly clear victories.

We welcome team no 12!

This weekend team number twelve qualified for Men's Handball World Championship 2011 in Sweden. Australia beated New Zealand and Cook Island twice in the Oceanian Championships.

New Zealand managed to take the second place, by beating Cook Island in two matches.

We congratulate Australia and welcome the Australian team warmly to Sweden in January 2011!
