”Bengans Boys” add gold lining to the opening of the 2011 Men’s Handball World Championship.

There will be handball nostalgia with a gold lining as the Handball World Championship is opened in the Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg on January 13th. Two all star teams crammed with former Swedish World Champions will face each other.

One of the teams with players from Gothenburg will be lead by Björn Jilsén, the other with players from the rest of Sweden will be coached by Bengt “Bengan” Johansson, the legendary national team coach.  From 1990 – 2002 he led Sweden to eleven medals in the World Championships, the European Championships as well as in the Olympic Games.

-This will be tremendous fun – we believe there is a large interest for this kind of game. That became obvious to us as we played in Gothenburg last summer during Partille Cup, says Peter Gentzel, legendary goalkeeper who just recently moved back to Sweden and who will be playing also.

Other handball legends to join the game are Magnus Wislander, today the coach of RIK, Ljubomir Vranjes, coach in Flensburg, Germany, the goalkeeper Mats Olsson, Mats Fransson, Erik Hajas, Pierre Thorsson as well as Johan Pettersson, Thomas Sivertsson, Axel Sjöblad, Martin Boquist and Mathias Franzén.
