EgyptGroup A / Presidents Cup

The Egyptians can celebrate a little jubilee in Sweden as they play their tenth consecutive World Championship since 1993. The highlighter was reaching the semi finals in France 2001, but then the African record champion lost both matches on the final weekend and missed a medal – it was, until then, the biggest success of a Non-European team at World Championships.

But since then the results decreased, as later-on the final rankings of the Egyptians at WCH were 15, 14, 17 and 14. This year they even lost the final of the African Championships – on home ground, as Tunisia beat them clearly in Cairo.

Some Egyptian players found clubs abroad but the majority is still playing for home clubs like Al-Zamallek the winner of the African Champions League. One of the key players is goalkeeper Nakib Bakir.
